Mother Nature smiled on the Island and she did it magnificently! Beautiful weather, smiling faces, and loads of people (over 120) visited the Kelleys Island History Museum on opening day. We celebrated International Museum Day with other museums in Erie County with free admission and a gift.

Almost everyone who came in lifted their souvenir coffee mugs in a salute to our museum.

New this year is a display about the founding of the Kelleys Island Landowners Assoc. and the navy that saved this island. We also expanded our commercial fishing display to include some items from personal collections.

Leslie snapped pictures, Janet, Alexi and Patti helped out welcoming people. We laughed along with Jim Selfe as we described him as our living history exhibit as he answered questions about his family and the mysterious disappearance of Elizabeth Selfe in 1877. He spent much of the day with us.

Janet labeled these 'mug shots' and we agree !
