West
Lake Shore Road
This
is a common type of "turn of the century" home. However,
it is included in this guide because of its meticulous
restoration.
Built in 1898 by Frank Hauser, then superintendent of the Kelleys
Island Wine Company, it was sold to the Sennish family in the
1940's and came into its present ownership by Jerry West in 1986.
Since its purchase by Mr. West, it has been completely restored,
inside and out, with few modifications, to its original state.
Though often forgotten today, these houses initially were painted
in such a way as to emphasize trim and other especial decorative
features.
The gazebo and iron fence are added features which fit into the
era in which the house was built. In addition, Mr. West has
purchased and installed an antique ice cream parlor in what was
once the summer kitchen and a barber shop of similar vintage in
the garage.
(This house is not open to public inspection.)
