Monagan Road

The original stone building, pictured here, was constructed in 1860 by Samuel Hamilton, an Irish immigrant who came to the Island about 1851. From that time until the 1920's, the Hamilton family engaged in farming and viticulture, by 1880 producing the most successful grape harvest on the Island.

Sometime in the 1920's, the area was sold to the Holy Trinity Parish in Cleveland as a summer camp for that parish's children. In 1952, the camp was sold to the Ohio Regular Baptist Home and Camp Inc., since which time there have been many additions and improvements. During the summer months, literally hundreds of children and young people enjoy a variety of pursuits on both land and water under the guidance of the Baptist Camp Patmos counselors.
